Interactive Coastal Information System for Kuwait’s Territorial Waters
Phase I: Hindcasting of Wave, Water Levels and Tidal Currents.
The Digital oceanographic Atlas provides a valuable source of data. This Interface model linked with oceanographic and met ocean data bank will provide a new comprehensive hydrodynamic atlas for Kuwait's waters that can be a valuable source of information for the met ocean and oceanographic atlas of Kuwait and the Arabian Gulf. Time series of wind, wave, water levels and tidal currents are provided for last 10 years (1993 to 2002). The data generated will be stored in a digital Coastal Information System ( C.I.S.) that will provide a useful tool for the storing and extraction data (time series, summary tables, roses). The model interface system divide into several options as: -
1-Digital Met Gulf Data for (Arabian Gulf). (Extracting Wind data records).The model covered
the entire Arabian Gulf from (longitude 47.4, Latitude 23.8 deg) till (longitude 56.8, Latitude 30.5
deg.) with grid spacing of (0.1 deg). Data record covered From 1993 to 2002.
2-Digital Oceanographic Gulf Data for (Arabian Gulf). (Extracting Wave data records). Sulisz
and Al-Salem K. et al. (2000) used a third-generation wind driven wave model WAM (WAMDI
Group, 1988) to model the wind waves in the Arabian Gulf with emphasis on Kuwait’s territorial
waters. The model covered the entire Arabian Gulf from (longitude 47.4, Latitude 23.8 deg) till (
(longitude 56.8, Latitude 30.5 deg.) with grid spacing of (0.1 deg). Data record covered from
1993 to 2002.
3-Digital hydrodynamic Gulf Data for (Arabian Gulf). (Extracting Tidal Current and Water
levels data records). The RMA model is a finite element model uses an unstructured grid. This will
allow for generating a coarser grid for the Gulf and a finer grid in the Kuwaiti territorial waters. The
model covered the entire Arabian Gulf and data record from 1993 to 2002 for tidal current and
4- Rose Plotting Tool. It’s a valuable tool for user to create a rose plot and the statistical of
frequency table for wave height, wind speed and tidal current for any location and time period in the
5-Long Term Prediction Design (Wave Height or Wind Speed) Tool. It a valuable tool to study
the probability of long term distribution using several type of probability as:
1- Gamble Distribution.
2- Fertchet Distribution.
3- Weibull Distribution.
4- Upper Bound Fit.
5- Least Square Distribution.
6- Best Fit Distribution.
6- To Study Wind Energy Tool. It a valuable tool to study and calculate the wind Energy at any
select location in Kuwait and al Arabian Gulf.
